Creative Critical Reflection for Our Music Video

We decided to go with the park as our location because our storyline doesn’t really need a specific location. It relates to people who live their everyday lives and the park is a common location many people tend to go to, therefore we chose this location. Also, we believed that choosing the park would give us different locations within the area to shoot at such as the bathroom, path, bench, etc. All locations for our product was taken during the daytime. We created our storyboard to match the song’s meaning which was about suicide prevention. We wanted to highlight the issues many people face in their lives and then send a message letting these people know they aren’t the only one and it will get better soon. We want our audience to not just watch the video to watch it, but to understand the fact that their are people out there like this.

Our product would be seen on social platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, etc. These are platforms in which many people use, especially teenagers. Although suicide is something anybody can attempt to do, suicide thoughts are more common in teenagers. Using social media is one of the most easiest ways to spread awareness and promote our product. It can show as an Youtube ad to catch viewers attention and could be seen on Snapchat stories.

I can confirm that my production skills have improved. Working with other people allowed me to learn new things in filming and editing. For example, one of my teammates had a camera that is used for filming and I’ve never recorded with one before. When I first held it, I didn’t even know where the power button was. After a short lesson on how to use it, I attempted for the first time recording with it to realize how easy it is. I also managed to teach others a few tricks of mines that I incorporate into my work. I have a very educational and fun experience while working with others.

Originally, I used my iPhone to record all my scenes. I also used it to edit my scenes, however for this project, we used an actual film camera. I never used on before and I did have have a short tutorial to learn how to use it. After figuring it out, I decided to let another teammate film with the camera. For editing, an application called iMovie was used. I already had experience using iMovie, however I didn’t know how to transfer the shots we took that was in the SD card to the application. I learned how to do it from the editor on our team and I would say that this is something I could add to the list of my editing skills.
