Filming for our Music Video

Image
On November 22, we filmed the scenes for our music video. The location we planned to film at ended up being closed and we had to relocate to a new area last minute. After we found a new area to film, we noticed we may have to make some changes to the storyboard. Originally, the setting of our first scene was supposed to be placed on a basketball court, however there wasn't any courts in the area we were filming. Instead we changed the scene to Actor 1 sitting down and searching their bag leading to an act of bullying from pedestrians. Thankfully, it linked perfectly to the other scenes. In addition, our storyboard included a bridge scene that we ended up having to switch to a river scene. We didn't really change what happens during the scene. Actor 1 and Actor 2 still meets at the area and hugs. The only difference is that Actor 1 walks to a river to drown themselves instead of a bridge to jump. Lastly, we had to change the scene where Actor 2 checks their phone and watch it g...

Scene 2: The players appear on the court and notices Actor 1 and begins to live and take pictures. While this is happening on of the players throws the ball at Actor 1. Scene 3: Actor 1 checks her phone to open Instagram and sees the post of her tattered sneakers with a lot of likes and negative comments. She grabs her gym bag and runs off court to the bathroom. Scene 4: She’s crying in the bathroom and checks her messages to see her friends bullying her too. She then looks up on the stall door and negative message catches her eye.  Scene 5: Actor 2 is standing somewhere taking pictures/videos for Instagram in clean and nice clothes(they are popular) Scene 6: After she finishes she looks at her phone sadly as it gets a bunch of likes and positive comments  Scene 7: She begins to walk Scene 8: She pulls down her sleeve revealing the scars or bruises and sheds...

Research Blog: Music Video Conventions

Image
In this music video, we will be portraying a message about how suicide and other harmful things to yourself can be prevented. This stems from people getting bullied, being left out, or physical & emotional abuse. In this circumstance, we will be focusing on someone who is going through a rough patch in their life, and how it ultimately changes for the better. Hip hop music generally focuses on the teen bracket, and most people starting from ages of adolescence to their teen years experience suicidal thoughts and acts of self harm. The use of Mis En Scene plays an important role in these types of music videos, because it portrays the theme of the video, coinciding with its lyrics. The lyrics display a strong message to the audience and urges a call to action. Personal lyrics are also a great thing to have for the attempts of making a change. It also represents the overall setting and context of the music video. Props and camera shots help add to the narrative of the music vide...

Intro blog: Music Video Project

Image
For this music video I have partnered with Rohanna Wollaston, Idline Altema, and Ciaya Cook. I chose to work with them because I know them personally and we all thought it would be fun to work together. I believe we can all learn new things from each other such as new techniques and strategies than we could incorporate in future projects. I also believe I chose people who will work efficiently to get this music video done. The song we chose is "1-800-373-8255 " by Logic. It is a hip hop song that has received 400 million views on YouTube. We chose this song because we wanted to do a storyline based off of people who have suicidal thoughts. Suicide is a serious and touching topic for many and it affects the way the grow up and how they act towards others. When this song was released it helped people overcome this bridge in their lives and making this video would spread more awareness to people who bully others. It may also spread awareness to those who are bullied and need som...

Creative Critical Reflection for Powerade Commercial

How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues? Powerade is a brand, in which their drinks are made to give people energy during exercising. They advertise their drink and throw in their slogan, "Power Through". I incorporated the common conventions used in commercials by the product I used such as the workout theme or the outdoor setting. The costumes represent as an athletic fit used to exercise in. As for the lighting, natural lighting from the sun was used. The mis-en-scene represents the social groups such as athletes and body builders, in which they work up a sweat. For example, the scenes where the actor was doing jumping jacks, squats etc. represented the brand's target audience. It let viewers know the commercial was meant for people who workout to stay fit.  How does your product engage with the audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text? My commercial would be distributed as an ad on soc...

My Powerade Commercial

Image
This commercial was the first project I've worked on. When I watch the final product, I see many things I need to work on. I need to work more on recording shots at a certain angle.  I also need to work more on my editing skills. Although there are some areas where my skills need development, I believe that I have improved a lot from the beginning of the project to this point. For example, I have never recorded a film before and learning how to record was an experience that was needed. Also, I have never edited a film. I have discovered features in the software and apps that I've never used. I have never applied a filter to a project until now. For the audio, I've learned to turn a screen recording into an audio file and combine it to another video. I have also learned to trim and cut video and audio files.  One thing I would do differently for the next time is create more backup plans. During this project, I lost the only extra actor I had and I should've thought to ha...

Editing for my Powerade Commercial

Image
Once I had all my scenes collected, I began editing. I am very glad I took more than one take of each scene because when I was inserting some clips, they didn't fit correctly with the other clips. Some clips were recording in landscape mode and some were recorded in portrait, however I managed to combine the two, to make everything fit. The length of each of my clips were too long and made the total time of my commercial 1 minute and 11 seconds. All of the clips taken where I was exercising were way to long. I had to crop every clip down a couple of seconds to meet the correct time limit of 30 seconds. Next, I decided to apply a filter to the each clip to add an effect for the commercial. After applying the filter, I went to another editing app to  create the Powerade scene and added it into the commercial. After fixing the scenes, I saved the video and opened up a new project to insert the background music. When it came to the song choice, I wanted a certain part of the song...

Filming Blog for Powerade Commercial

Image
On November 1st, I began filming my Powerade commercial. Originally I was supposed to film on a track field or a gym, however I wasn't able to find an area that would allow me to film. I also lost an actor that was supposed to be in the commercial. I then decided to do a home workout commercial. As the director and only actor, I prepared my props and costume for filming. I used my phone camera and a ladder to record each scene and positioned it to the angles I needed for the commercial. I put on my workout gear and began to record myself doing exercises. I did jumping jacks, high knee runs, and squats with a resistance band. I then moved the later and positioned my camera to get a close up shot of me reaching into my bag to grab the Powerade bottle. I had to re-film this clip many times to get it the way I wanted it. After recording that part, I moved my camera up a few steps of the ladder to get a close up shot of me drinking the Powerade. I made sure to turn the bottle to make t...
